Why convert JPG to PNG?

Use PNG when the next step needs PNG

Changing the format can fit a different image workflow, but it does not recreate detail already lost in the original JPEG.

A lossless format for the next save

Once the JPG has been decoded, PNG can preserve the current pixel state without adding another JPEG generation when you save the converted image.

Private online conversion

Convert the image online with private server-side processing and without permanent file storage.

How it works

Convert JPG to PNG in three steps

Start with the original JPG, run the format conversion and inspect the PNG before using it in your next workflow.

  1. 1

    Upload your JPG file

Choose the JPG image you want to convert to PNG.

  2. 2

    Select JPG to PNG

Choose the conversion type and review the estimated credit use.

  3. 3

    Download and check the PNG

Run the conversion, download the generated PNG and check that it works for its intended destination.

When JPG to PNG makes sense

Two reasons to change the image format

Use the conversion because the next workflow needs PNG, not because changing the extension is expected to repair the original image.

Editing

Continue editing without another JPEG save

Move a JPG into a PNG-based editing workflow when you want subsequent saves to preserve the current decoded pixels instead of repeatedly re-encoding them as JPEG.

File size

Understand a larger PNG result

A PNG created from a photographic JPG can be much larger because the two formats compress image data differently.

Why the PNG may be larger

Privacy and security

Your files should remain under your control

FilexFlow uses server-side processing and is designed to avoid permanent file retention.

  • Private server-side processing.
  • No permanent storage of uploaded or converted files.
  • Encrypted transport through HTTPS.
  • Clear credit estimates before processing.

Frequently asked questions

JPG to PNG conversion questions

What changes, what does not and what to check after converting a JPEG image to PNG.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No. PNG can preserve the pixels decoded from the JPG without another lossy JPEG save, but converting the file cannot restore image detail that the original JPEG compression already removed.

Why is my PNG larger than the original JPG?

JPEG is designed to compress photographic content with lossy compression, while PNG stores raster data losslessly. For photos, that difference can make the converted PNG considerably larger.

Why do the colors look different after JPG to PNG conversion?

Color can appear different when applications interpret ICC profiles, RGB color spaces or gamma information differently. Compare both files in a color-managed viewer when color accuracy matters.

When is PNG useful after starting with a JPG?

PNG can be useful as an intermediate format when you need to continue editing without introducing another JPEG generation each time the image is saved.

Know what to do after JPG to PNG

Check quality, file size or color behavior after conversion, or switch back to JPG when that format better fits the next step.
